This given space played a bit part in the finished layout of the kitchen. The area lent itself to the inclusion of a peninsular which not only provides a good area of worktop space, but also a place for informal dining, satisfying the modern idea of open-plan living. although more expensive detailing has been kept to a minimum, a tongue and groove back panel to the peninsular has been used to give a little extra detail to an otherwise large area if viewed from the back. This peninsular is a popular way of dividing a space or an alternative when space does not allow for an island.

The door used throught the space is constructed from a man-made material and is known as Georgian lay-on, a traditional style where the door sits on top of the carcass. Here, it has been hand painted in bone china colour to a smoth, consistent finish. However, this door can be produced in a number of different paint finishes; washed to allow wood grain to show through, rustic finish which shows brush strokes or even given an aged effect with a ptina finish.

To continue with the traditional theme, appliances were chosen in keeping with the style. The Range master AGA style 'Elan' has the aesthetics of an AGA but with a user-friendly gas hob. Other appliances featured include an integrated tall fridge freezer, a microwave and a space saving slimline dishwasher.

The worktop chosen for this display is an attractive dark granite which not only provides a real contrast to the bone china painted doors but, due to its relflective nature, also bounces light around the area to create the illusion of more space.
